The Hero’s Journey – We will create stories to the following Stages:
- Rock Bottom – Confronting our greatest fears – also known as “the black moment” in life. Exploring deaths in life – not just real death but deaths of relationships, deaths of a way of living.
- Reward or Healing the Wounds – having survived hitting Rock Bottom, you/your character are changed.
- The Long Road Back – In this stage of story, demons might still be nipping at your heals. This is where your adventure is left behind and you return, changed, to your life – a completely different person.
- Resurrection – This part of story represents The Final Test – have you really learned your lessons?
- The Gifts you have Gained – You return to your ordinary world filled with new knowledge and a new understanding of the world – you have essentially turned into The Hero.
- Angels, Enemies, Mentors and Archetypes the universe sends your way to help with the journey

Creative writing exercises designed to support Story Foundation
Creative writing prompts and story ideas will inspire you to explore the stages of your stories through two to three part writing exercises, flushing out what is most important to add to the foundation of your larger story.
Studying the Hero’s Journey and the Writer’s Journey, there are few exceptions to the story formula; this foundation is critical and although I found differences in all stories, argued all the exceptions to the story formula, only to understand that there aren’t exceptions. Every story has to have a structure to make it come alive.
