About Literati Academy’S BODY HEALING Workshops
WRITING IS AN ACT OF PHYSICAL & EMOTIONAL HEALING
There could not be a better time in history to write about the body – which is forver adjusting to our changing lives inside a changing, chaotic world. Our bodies are on a long spiritual journey as well as a physical journey, and how we speak about our bodies, write about our bodies and challenge our bodies matters on our mortal quest of this one, beautiful life we are given – a life filled with griefs and joys and challenges.
Within this course we will have the opportunity to write our deepest truth, and perhaps discover those truths through the writing process. You will join a community of writers and share the stories of your journey in a private Facebook page, and each month you will enter a deep, comprehensive creative exploration, be inspired, write your stories and read them out loud to other people on a similar body-healing-spiritual-journey.
Each class will have simple exercises to teach you how to create lists ask questions and find the magic through metaphor. Virginia Woolf wrote in her essay on being ill, “Illness is the great confessional . . . Things are said. Truths blurted out which the cautious respectability of health conceals.”
Writing through our bodies is an act of resiliance and reconciliation and even protest,
and may result in a spiritual or physical healing that is unexpected.
Writing about our body challenges is also n act of forgiveness and self blessing – and sometimes, acceptance.
Who is this Workshop For:
Our monthly writing workshop is for writers of all levels – anyone who is in the middle of a medical challenge or has overcome a medical challenge. It’s also for those of of living in grief, because grief often lives in the body, and writing to grief releases the body from carrying the grief, allowing it to spill onto the page. The workshop is also for anyone wanting to explore writing through their bodies and about their bodies.
This workshop creates a monthly practice, and heart connecting support of a community of writers all taking the same course. In the end, all our physical challenges offer us a unique wisdom and a new lens of compassion – for ourselves and others.
“We come to writing when we are diagnosed
because we are silenced in many ways
through the experience of being inside the medical world.
Doctors create the narrative—
the biopsy report, the CT count, the prognosis.
Writing gives patients an opportunity to say –
‘Wait – I am not just my disease,
this is my grief –
this is my life
and my memories and my story –
the illness can’t take that from me.’ “
— Laura Lentz
TOPICS EXPLORED IN THIS CLASS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:*
DECEMBER 9 – HEALING WITH ANGELS
They come to heal us and guide us – they come as doctors, they come in dreams, they come as friends with healthy soup and they also sometimes come as disrupters, asking us to change course when we resist change. There are Earth Angels and Angels from the other Side. We will write how our angels show up for us, and share those stories.
JANUARY 13th – RELEASING & EMBRACING
We will release the year and look at renewal – with several prominent astrologers helping show us how to navigate what is ahead, and what it means to let the old self go and the new self emerge, as we enter (gasp!) 2024. We will also explore the Quantum Physics of time and the body.
FEBRUARY 10TH – MESSY BODY LOVE –
The Heart is the emperor, the Ruler of our Bodies, and the basis for all our stories. Love is patient, love is kind and love is also messy. When love gets messy, what does it do to our bodies, our ego, our life-force? Love and Self Love is the most healing aspect for our bodies,
NOTE: THEMES SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON GUEST AUTHORS AND NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS
EXPERIENCED WRITERS & BEGINNERS
In classes wee merge inspirational topics with poetic and literary techniques. This class is designed for writers of all levels and we have professors, authors and beginning writers writing side by side weekly
We often explore writing technique, including utilizing questions, odes, metaphor, place and lists, while creating content in short writing segments – content that can be used in creating memoir, fiction, poetry, essays and blogs.
This style of learning of practicing the craft of writing inside a safe community creates content to be used in books, blogs and literary journals.
READ YOUR STORY BACK IN SMALL GROUPS
Each month you choose you will take the class with a large group of students with Laura Lentz as the teacher, but after you write, you will enter a breakout room and read back with 8-10 other writers. Deep listening is as healing as writing, and sharing each other’s stories is part of healing. The intimate, live group becomes a family of writers.
If you sign up for the whole series and have to miss a week, you will receive the class via an organized Power Point presentation you can do on your own.
Writers learn from the curriculum, but also from the feedback, and hearing what works in the stories created by the writers.
THE ALCHEMY OF COMMUNITY
Stories save lives, and will ultimately save our world. And sometime they save us while we are creating them. When we write through our bodies and about our bodies, our body offers us its wisdom.
Our Body Stories become powerful mythologies, where the magic shines out of words and paragraphs, swirling around the reader, filled with symbology and magic and healing.
This private community is also a private Facebook group where all writers taking any week of this course can freely share their work over the next six months with each other, gathering support.
By participating in these live classes, you learn the art of writing by practicing, deeply listening,
reading out loud and hearing what is good reflected back to your by students.
